Forensic Expert: Robert Carlson. We are frequently hired to fix others’ mistakes. We are active, hands-on forensic contractors and consultants with experience in construction and defect-related litigation support, construction expert witness testimony and forensic contractor evaluations. Our advice is routinely sought by architects, engineers and other experts. We find the truth of construction defects and have extensive practical experience to support our forensic contractor evaluations and expert witness reports for attorneys and insurance professionals.

 

Recent Cases

• Hired by The Walt Disney Company/Imagineering to perform a forensic investigation of, and develop drying protocols for, two totems made in Bali from green wood that were to be used for the Guardians of the Galaxy ride at Disneyland-California Adventure.
• Retained by one of the largest law firms in the United States to act as expert in an insurance fraud and arson case in federal court. We were able to demonstrate what the opposing side was claiming was impossible, and that portion of their defense case collapsed.
• Retained by a homeowner who purchased a house that was remodeled by a house flipping contractor in partnership with a real estate agent and an interior designer. We were able to determine through investigation that significant structural changes had been made without proper engineering, inspections or permits, that modifications had been done to a retaining wall on hillside property without soils engineering or permits. This complicated case was successfully settled with all parties and insurance companies.
• Contacted by a homeowner/lawyer to investigate the failure of an interior remodel in an architecturally significant Mid-Century home in the Bel Air area of Los Angeles. We were able through our findings to refute the contractor’s claims and significantly affect the outcome of the case.
• Carried out an investigation of an architecturally significant home in the Santa Monica area of Los Angeles. We were able to determine for the homeowner/lawyer that their contractor was incompetent and had relied heavily on his foreman. The foreman quit the unfinished project and forward momentum stopped. The homeowner/lawyer was able to come to an agreement with the contractor without the necessity of litigation.
